Credit Cards are a convenient way to purchase goods, order items and obtain credit but they can often be an expensive way to borrow cash or to retain an outstanding balance each month. Typically, interest is charged on the outstanding balance and minimum payments are usually set at between 3% and 5% of the outstanding balance. When considering taking out a new credit card you should compare the APR (Annual Percentage Rate). The APR should include the interest rate and any initial charges and ongoing charges. APR’s on vary widely from between 12% to 25% so it is wise to shop around. Some credit card companies offer interest free periods as an incentive for you to transfer balances from existing credit cards. Whilst these may seem attractive please some companies charge a fee for transferring balances. Please ensure you read carefully all the terms and conditions associated with a credit card before you decide to take on out. If you are considering using your credit card to borrow cash you may find that an Unsecured Loans or a Secured Loans offers a cheaper interest rate than some credit cards although this of course is dependant upon your personal circumstances. You should shop around, do you homework and carry out some basic financial analysis to ensure you are borrowing money at a competitive rate of interest. Credit cards can however be extremely useful and convenient. You can also buy goods and gain you up to 59 days to pay for them, depending on the card and the timing of your purchase. If however you do not pay off your credit card each month your credit card statement will tell you what minimum payment. If you continue to pay just the minimum payment each month the outstanding balance can take a surprisingly long time to pay off.
