Would you like to know what is held on your Credit Report?

You may have heard terms like ‘blacklisted’ and ‘bad credit history’. You may have been declined for credit or maybe you would like to see your credit status prior to taking out a Secured Loan.

Identity Fraud is also a growing concern. Maybe you want to ensure that all the credit registered on your Credit Report is YOURS!

All this information can be found out by accessing your personal Credit Report.

Your Credit Report affects your personal credit rating amongst lending institutions (banks, credit card companies, mortgage lenders, secured loans companies). Less known is the other users of Credit Reports which include; retailers, mobile phone companies, and Utility companies who may also refer to their customer’s person credit report. There is also an increasing trend for Employers to access the credit report of their staff. As such your credit report can affect various aspects of your life for instance; whether you are accepted for secured loans, loans, credit cards and mortgages. Many Secured Loans institutions use your credit report to define what interest rate you are charged for the services (e.g. the better the credit report, the cheaper the interest rate).

You generally have to give a company your consent for them to access your credit report. This consent is often contained amongst the small print on various Application forms and Proposals.

Within the UK there are two main firms (agencies) which hold you Credit File; Experian and Equifax. Information is passed to these agencies by the companies you have dealings with e.g. lenders, banks, credit card firms, secured loans companies, mobile phone companies etc.

Errors are sometimes made which can lead to your credit rating being severally affected. If not corrected errors can blight various aspects of your day-to-day life.
